Could I sui the education department for being ually aulted at school and expelled for it?

I don't want to go into to much detail. Im now in my 20's and have started getting my life back on track ater spending all my teenage years with mental illnesses, alcohol abuse and homelessness caused by being aulted by a school teacher. I didnt want to go to the please as I was 13 and scared but everytime I saw him would have anxiety attacks. I was forced into counselling where I refused to talk although the principle was questioning what happened. I told my principle when I was 16 and she expelled me. The teacher is now serving a 5 year sentence for what he did as 2 years ago I gave a statement to the please after it took to much of my life and he pleaded guilty. I dont think I would but was wondering if I would have a case if I wanted to sue the education department for expelling me and not investigating him when it has now been proven
